Blue Violet Organic Cotton Sliver - 1oz.
* This colorway is very tricky to photograph. Indoors, it is almost identical to our grape colorway and is a much warmer than it looks in the picture (the second photo shows it indoors with no flash). Only under light is is clearly a blue tinted purple. I've attached a third photo showing both purples side by side so you can compare them. This particular purple shade also tends to separate, giving you some spots of brilliant warm pink-purple, and other spots of more of a blue purple. *
Cotton is one of the most recognizable fibers in the world, and I am pleased to be able to offer it to you hand dyed by me personally.
This cotton is organically grown here in the USA without the use of pesticides. It is processed into a sliver to make it easier to spin, though it still has a short staple length (around 1 to 1.5") and is not recommended for beginners. You can spin it with either a spindle or a spinning wheel.
To set the twist in your hand-spun cotton yarn, a warm bath is all that is needed to awaken the twist and let it set properly. You can simmer it on low heat, boil it, or even steam it to set the twist. Each batch is treated with dye fixative to prevent bleeding (sometimes minor bleeding may still occur but it is unlikely).
I suggest hand-washing your finished garment and laying it flat to dry, just as you would for any hand-spun product. Cotton can also be used in needle and wet felting! Just be sure to use it with a little bit of wool if you're wet felting it to help lock in those individual fibers.
