These rolags came to us as a custom requested colorway for dreadlocks, and we love them so much we decided to make them a permanent addition to our shop.
This is the Oil Slick colorway, which is basically rainbow that is then overdyed black. I hand paint the fiber and make each batch as it is ordered, so please allow for some minor variations from batch to batch. Each rolag will have all of the colors of the rainbow overdyed in it, though some will look more red or blue depending on how it is rolled up. When you start to spin it, you will see the different colors bloom.
By default, these are made with 60% polwarth and 40% silk, so there is a very obvious luster and sheen to the fiber (this blend will felt). The second option is Superwash Merino / Tencel 50/50, and you can see an example in the last photo. This option will not felt. As you can see, it has even more luster than the polwarth/silk version, but the tencel rejects the dye which makes the fiber look a little bit lighter.
Please use the dropdown menu to select your quantity (by default it is 1oz) and fiber choice.
This colorway is treated with a dye fixative and rinsed thoroughly. Slight bleeding is still possible though it is unlikely. For best results, hand wash in cool water.
Punis and rolags are a very fun way to spin fiber. They are easier to hold onto than big art batts and all of the drafting work has already been done for you. They may look confusing, but this is actually my favorite way to spin fiber!
Joining them together is as simple as touching it to the fiber as it spins, and this way of spinning creates predictable, gorgeous variations in your hand spun yarn. If you prefer to felt, feel free! It will work for that too.
