Limited edition:

  • 50/50 Tea Leaf / Tencel
  • Fingering to Lace Weight
  • 548 Yards
  • 100g Skein

This yarn is somewhere between fingering and lace weight, as each skein is 548 yards. It is incredibly rare and unusual, and is one of my absolute favorite yarns we have ever offered. 100% vegan, this yarn is shiny like cotton or silk, but it not stiff at all and is incredibly soft. It is is perfect for people who want a beautiful yarn that is not made out of wool. This was custom spun for us as a part of a new test run for several different unique and unusual yarn blends, and we only have a limited quantity of skeins at this time. The yarn is shimmery just like silk, and can be dyed with fiber reactive dyes just like cotton.

This listing is for the yarn undyed, but we can also dye this yarn in any of our pre-existing colorways, or do a custom colorway just for you (contact us for a custom listing... there would be an additional fee for this -- the last photo shows an example only of how this exact base looks dyed up). This yarn would be amazing in a variety of different fiber arts - knitting, crochet, weaving, etc. Due to the manufacturing process, each skein may have tiny knots in it ranging from 1 to 3 knots on average per skein. They are barely noticeable but worth mentioning in case it's a problem.

More about this blend:

Tencel is one of the only viscose products on the market (in addition to our rose fiber, pearl fiber, and mint fiber) that is made in a truly eco-friendly way, using a closed-loop system which recycles the solvents used in its production. Tencel comes from the pulp of the eucalyptus and beech trees and is grown on sustainably run farms certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). The trees used produce a very high yield of cellulose per acre and give the best quality fiber with the least amount of waste. The process used to make Tencel is designed to be as efficient as possible, and uses non-toxic chemicals and solvents during processing. In addition, Tencel is a high-tenacity cellulose fiber, which gives strength and shine to yarn and fiber blends. Tencel gives you the look and feel of silk without the cost of silk. It is also considered a vegan product. During my studies as an environmental science major, I did a lot of research on tencel, and found it to be one of the most eco friendly fibers in the world.
The tea fiber is made in a very similar way, but differs in that it uses leaves harvested from the Camellia sinensis plant, which is the same plant used to make green/black tea!
