- 100% Milk fiber
- Lace Weight
- 656 Yards
- 100g Skein
This yarn is so incredibly soft, and is perfect for people who want a beautiful yarn that is not made out of wool. This was custom spun for us as a part of a new test run for several different unique and unusual yarn blends, and we only have a limited quantity of skeins at this time. The yarn is shimmery just like silk, and will take acid dyes just like silk or wool.
This listing is for the yarn undyed, but we can also dye this yarn in any of our pre-existing colorways, or do a custom colorway just for you (contact us for a custom listing... there would be an additional fee for this). This yarn would be amazing in a variety of different fiber arts - knitting, crochet, weaving, etc. Due to the manufacturing process, each skein may have tiny knots in it ranging from 1 to 3 knots on average per skein. They are barely noticeable but worth mentioning in case it's a problem.
Milk Fiber is a really interesting fiber, which resembles silk in terms of appearance, but behaves similarly to wool. It is actually made from the casein proteins found in milk, hence the name. The process for making milk fiber is similar to that of viscose bamboo and uses zinc oxide, which makes the fiber naturally bacteriostatic. This means that bacteria can survive temporarily on the fiber, but cannot replicate on it. Milk fiber has great moisture absorption and conduction, and takes dye beautifully. It is comfortable, white, fluffy and springy; and has a pH of 6.8 (same as the human skin.
As with all hand dyed or hand made items, we recommend hand washing your yarn/finished item in cool water and laying it flat to dry.
